A special collaboration between Nova, one of Israel’s leading semiconductor companies, and Asif, the Educational-Rehabilitation Center at Shamir Medical Center, has led to the development of accessible games and assistive devices for children with complex motor disabilities.
The collaboration was initiated by Dr. Yael Segev-Kurtzwell of Nova, who previously volunteered at Asif and whose daughter also served there as part of her national service.
After becoming familiar with the children’s needs firsthand, she initiated the collaboration, and Nova decided to fully fund the development of the assistive devices.
The engineers developed accessible watering cans adapted to the children’s height and grip, switch-activated games for children who are unable to move independently, and a multi-themed game board that enables children to participate in activities independently.
At the beginning of the month, a recognition ceremony was held at the school. The children read words of thanks, sang songs and presented the volunteers with gifts they had made themselves.
