The Center for PTSD Treatment

A Groundbreaking Treatment for Severe PTSD at the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine

Israel is facing the largest psychological trauma since its founding—one in three frontline or second-line victims from the October 7 war may develop PTSD. The Sagol Institute for hyperbaric treatment and research at Shamir Medical Center offers unique biological interventions (including pressure cell therapy) for adults and children with severe PTSD symptoms. Your donation can heal the wounds of those affected by wartime atrocities.

New Protected ER at Shamir Medical Center

The ER (emergency department) is among the busiest in the country, with about 160,000 visits annually. Recent missile attacks have repeatedly struck the hospital, yet only 10% of inpatient areas are protected. The events of October 7 highlighted the urgent need for safe spaces for patients and staff to ensure secure, continuous care.

From Obsolete Oncology Institute to a New Multidisciplinary Oncology Center

The Helmsley multidiscipline oncology institute

Named after Helmsley charitable trust, this new center launched in June 2023 to provide international-level care for local cancer patients. Expanding from a 900 m² single-story building to a six-story, 9,750 m² facility—including oncology triage, a youth day ward, clinics, supportive care, and inpatient floors for patients and families.

New Maternity Wing at Shamir Medical Center

Expanding and Upgrading Maternity Services at Shamir Medical Center

In response to rapid population growth in the region and Shamir's future transformation into Israel’s largest medical center, a new three-story, 7,500 m² maternity wing (added to the existing 2,100 m²) is being built to significantly expand capacity and meet high national and global standards.

Electrophysiology Istitute: An International Center of Excellence for Research and Treatment of Cardiac Arrhythmias

Sudden cardiac death in young, healthy individuals is a major challenge—accounting for 10–15% of all deaths in the Western world. A new international excellence center for diagnosis and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders within Shamir’s cardiology network is being established.

The planned medical center will provide care for over 1.5 million residents in the central and lowland regions – a result of the region’s rapid population growth in recent years.

ER Visits

The Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) at Shamir is one of the largest in Israel and the world. The department is visited by approximately 160,000 residents annually, over 13,000 per month and more than 400 daily.

Births

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Shamir Medical Center has one of the highest birth rates in the country and is known for its excellent staff and the comprehensive services it offers. The department attracts thousands of women every year for obstetrics, gynecology, and fertility services.

Built Square Meters

Following government decisions from 2016, approximately 160 dunams will be added to the hospital, for a total of 420 dunams. Currently, the medical center’s built-up area is 170,000 square meters, and approvals have been received for an addition of approximately 850,000 square meters. The medical center will bring hospitals and other facilities under its responsibility with the evacuation of the Tzirifin camp.

International Center for Arrhythmia Research and Treatment

Led by Prof. Elad Anter (recently joined from Harvard University), a global expert in rhythm disorders. His research lab has pioneered breakthroughs in understanding complex arrhythmias over 20 years, producing over 100 publications in top journals and earning recognition from Harvard and Cleveland Clinic.

The Marla Dan Center for Interventional Neuroradiology (Brain Cath Lab)

Israel’s leading center in number of brain catheterizations. According to the Ministry of Health, our stroke interventions number twice the national average, with over 20% of the country’s brain catheterizations performed here. We’re the only hospital in Israel with two dedicated neuroangiography suites, enabling treatment of even the most complex and otherwise untreatable cases.

Gonczarowski Family Microbiome Research Center

A world-renowned center studying one of science’s "hottest" topics—the microbiome. Led by Prof. Ilan Youngster, the center maps microbiome changes related to health and disease through clinical research and development of diagnostic tools, aiming to improve patient quality of life and treat conditions like obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, infections, and more.

Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research

Headed by Prof. Shai Efrati, this is the largest and most advanced hyperbaric medicine center in Israel and globally—featuring 8 pressure chambers that can treat up to 90 people at once and 500 daily. These chambers allow combined oxygen therapy at high pressure for hospitalized patients.

World-Recognized Pediatric Allergy, Immunology & Pulmonology Institute

In 2020, the World Allergy Organization awarded Shamir’s Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonology institute as a WAO Center of Excellence for 2020–2023, achieving excellence in education, research, and training the next generation of experts in allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology.
