The Friends of Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) supports the hospital by mobilizing public support and fundraising for life-saving medical equipment, scholarships for residents, laboratories, and buildings. Today, the association is focused on its most challenging mission since the founding of Shamir Medical Center: its accelerated growth and transformation into the largest medical center in Israel.

Yair Shamir

Chairman, Shamir Friends Association

Yair Shamir, son of the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, after whom the medical center is named, is a high-tech entrepreneur and businessman. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technion and served for 25 years in the Israeli Air Force as a pilot and engineer, commanding elite technology units and retiring with the rank of Colonel.

Today, Yair Shamir serves as Chairman and Managing Partner at Catalyst Funds. He is also the Chairman of Israel’s National Road Safety Authority, Chairman of the Board at Shalem Academic Center, Chairman of the General Assembly at Ohalo College in Katzrin, and a board member of the “Gvahim” nonprofit, which supports new immigrants in Israel.

Yair has previously chaired four major government companies—El Al Airlines, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Netivei Israel (Israel’s National Transport Infrastructure Company), and NTA (Urban Mass Transit System). He has held leadership roles in numerous private and public companies in Israel and abroad, including Elite, Scitex Israel, and Vycon Telecommunications. He currently serves on the boards of several NASDAQ-traded companies and private high-tech firms.

Yair also served as Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in the 33rd government and as a Member of the 19th Knesset. In 1989, he was awarded the Israel Defense Prize.

Sigal Adar

CEO and VP of Resource Development, Shamir Friends Association

An expert in philanthropy, public leadership development, infrastructure building, and organizational growth, Sigal Adar was appointed CEO of the Shamir Friends associaion in September 2018. She is responsible for managing the hospital’s external relations and fundraising efforts both in Israel and internationally.

Before joining Shamir Medical Center, she served as CEO of the Friends of Tel Aviv University from 2005 to 2018 and led the founding of the university’s alumni organization, which now includes more than 180,000 members. From 2000 to 2005, she reestablished and managed the university’s Social Involvement Unit under the Dean of Students.

During her tenure, she initiated and ran around 50 community programs in partnership with NGOs and businesses, integrating some 900 students into social activities benefiting children, youth, and adults in the community.

Sigal holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from Tel Aviv University. Her thesis focused on the dialogue between women and power. She also holds a second master’s degree in Political Communication for Executives from Tel Aviv University’s School of Political Science.

In her free time, she supports nonprofit causes, particularly women’s advancement into leadership roles, and lectures on social entrepreneurship, women and power, philanthropy, and public leadership.

She is a mother of three and lives with her family in Bnei Atarot, where she was born and raised.

Smadar Nimrodi

Executive Committee Member

Adv. Smadar Nimrodi is VP of projects and enforcement at the Israel Land Development Company and chairperson of the Board of the Israel Land Development Company Hotels under the “Rimonim Hotels” brand. Before that, she managed a chain of 12 hotels and led their renovation projects. Smadar established the Women Hotelier Forum under the Israeli Hotels Association and promotes the integration of women managers in the hotel industry.
She promotes the motto she lives by – “I believe in excellence combines with compassion for those who need it” – and therefore is involved in social activity and contribution to the community as a member of the management team at the Orna Porat Theater, the Push Foundation, supporting education for children with learning difficulties, and LadiesCircle Israel.
She graduated from the School of Social Work at Bar-Ilan University and holds a law license.

Ohad Levkovich

Ohad Levkovich is a partner at Excalibur, a Multi-Family Office.
He is a Major in the IDF reserve forces, following an active reserve service.
Ohad was born in 1972 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is married and father to one.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and management and a master’s degree (cum laude) in business administration from the Tel Aviv University.

Moshic Mor

Executive Committee Member

Moshic Moore has been a general partner at aMoon fund since 2020. He was a founding partner of Greylock Israel (now 83North) in 2006-2020 and a general partner at Greylock California from 2001 to 2006. He was co-founder and CEO of SPL WorldGroup.
Moshic has been a board member of the Center for Educational Technology (CET) since 2015 and has served as the Chairperson of the MindCET accelerator since 2017. He has been the chairman of the “Social Directors Team” initiative of the Elka Institute in The Joint Israel since 2018, and between 2014 and 2019, he served as chairperson of “Heights” NGO.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and computer science from Tel Aviv University and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University. he is a marine enthusiast and a skipper.

Sharon Har-Oz

Sharon Har Oz has over 20 years of experience in data analysis. She manages the analytics and machine learning department at Amazon Web Services, is a volunteer mentor, and is a lecturer and mentor for various initiatives such as Apple NGO, Pro-women NGO, AWS GetIT program, and the Education Ministry StartAlpha program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics (MBA) from Tel Aviv University. She strongly believes Jeff Bezos’s statement: “Work hard, have fun, make history.”

Uzi Yamin

Executive Committee Member

Uzi Yamin is an entrepreneur and industrialist who holds four academic degrees. He is an Israeli-American philanthropist and founder of Delek US. Uzi has been serving in various leadership positions for many years, working with management teams, elected officials, alumni, donors and the community to promote the mission of the institutions in which he is involved. Uzi has extensive experience in business finance and strategy. He served as chairperson of the Akiva School in Nashville, as well as as a board member of the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and the Nashville Adventure Science Center. Uzi is a strong supporter of charity work in Israel, including partnerships with Or Shalom and the Weizmann Institute. He is the primary driving force behind the various charitable activities of Delek US (DK) and Delek Logistics (DKL), in which he served as chairperson and actively initiated community-based activities through the “Delek Fund for Hope”. He is also energetic, highly motivated, and ambitious in his personal life, and one of the few to make a successful journey to the North Pole.

Maria Aron

Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the Association’s International Affairs Committee

Maria Aharon has been Chairperson of the Association’s International Affairs Committee since 2011, actively raising funds for Shamir Medical Center and its various departments. Maria founded friend communities in Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, London and Paris. The significant donations she raised have contributed to the construction of medical departments, equipment acquisition and research. Maria organised prestigious fundraising events in Israel and established collaborations between Assaf Harofeh and the General Hospital of Mexico. In parallel with the numerous impressive events she led with the Mexican Friends Circle, Maria organised medical delegations to aid problematic areas such as Wahahka, Chiapas and served as chairperson of the Health Committee at the International Women’s Club and a member of the JJAC (Justice for Jewish from Arab Countries).

Yoram Yahav

Executive Committee Member

Yoram Yahav is CEO of nine US, Russian, and Israeli companies and head of the Yoyah Group, supporting countries, cities, companies, armies, banks, hospitals, and leaders in over 20 countries. The company specialises in producing and implementing future strategies, including backward scenario planning. Yoram serves as the founding CEO and board member of the High-Tech Commission, a former Red Cross board member, and a member of the Executive Committee of CALO (Change Agent Leaders Organization), the Israeli umbrella organisation supporting the CEOs of non-profit organisations. Yoram founded TIM, an organisation for the development of global management teams, which was declared by the Financial Times as one of the three most successful management development initiatives worldwide. He is a graduate of UCLA, USC, and Harvard universities. He defines himself as strongly connected to giving and altruism and sees giving as creating space for acceptance.

Asi Shmeltzer

Asi Shmeltzer serves as Chairman and Board Member of the Shlomo Group—one of Israel’s leading investment groups, employing over 5,000 people in Israel, Romania, and Germany. Within the umbrella organization, Mr. Shmeltzer is Chairman of Shlomo Holdings, which provides automotive and insurance services in Israel and abroad, including car rental, private and operational leasing, vehicle sales, insurance, and financial solutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bournemouth University (UK) and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Richmond University (UK).

Daniel Benaim

Executive Committee Member

Driven by his passion for music, Daniel Benaim began his professional journey as a sound technician and went on to establish an independent company that provided services to numerous organizations. This path led, in 1982, to the founding of Comtec Group—a company that has been initiating and producing major events in Israel and around the world for over 35 years in the fields of sports, medicine, and business. Among the prominent events produced by Comtec Group are: the Giro d’Italia cycling race, the European Judo Championship, EuroBasket, EY’s annual Journey conference, Startup Nation, the Sohn Conference, and many others. Daniel is married to Tami, father of three, and a proud grandfather. He speaks Hebrew, English, Spanish, and French.

Vrada Burshtien

Board Member

Vered Burshtien began her career as an education analyst at the Economic Planning Authority within Israel’s Ministry of Finance. She later worked as an investment advisor at Discount Bank in Jerusalem and subsequently as a freelance journalist covering the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. In 1985, she relocated with her family to London, where she initially worked in finance—specializing in derivatives trading—before transitioning into real estate, first in London and later in Berlin. The growth and expansion of her real estate ventures allowed her to pursue additional interests. Today, she is an avid world traveler, often participating in educational group journeys to broaden her horizons. She is also an active angel investor in startups, and strongly believes in meaningful, impact-driven investments that create change.
