In a ceremony held at Shamir Medical Center with the participation of dozens of athletes and medical professionals, the “Alpha Institute” was launched, a new unit within the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine, offering athletes advanced hyperbaric chamber treatments for rehabilitation, recovery, and performance enhancement.
The Alpha Institute, led by physiologist Eldad Yaakobi with medical direction by Dr. Erez Lang, was established in response to the growing number of athletes seeking to incorporate hyperbaric therapy into their ongoing routines. Prof. Shai Efrati, Director of the Sagol Center, noted that this marks a significant advancement, as hyperbaric technologies had previously been accessible mainly to elite athletes and select patients.
Among the athletes treated at the Sagol Center are cyclist Chris Froome, Olympic medalist Peter Paltchik, and athletes from triathlon and cycling disciplines.
Peter Paltchik also took part in the launch, sharing his personal experience and the contribution of the treatment to his recovery throughout his career. Prof. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, Directoe General of Shamir Medical Center and a competitive athlete herself, emphasized the importance of making hyperbaric treatment accessible to athletes at all levels.
“Peter Paltchik is an example of an athlete who came through the Alpha Institute and reached remarkable achievements,” said Prof. Levtzion-Korach. “That is exactly what guided us in establishing the Alpha Institute – to create more athletes like him, who will benefit from this unique service and bring further achievements to the State of Israel.”
