After two years of COVID-19, the Friends of Shamir Medical Center finally reunite.
A special celebratory evening of the Friends of Shamir Medical Center was held at the home of Michal and Ohad Levkovich, long-time supporters of the hospital.
Guests were warmly welcomed by Yair Shamir, Chairman of the Friends Association; Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, Director General of Shamir Medical Center; and Sigal Adar, CEO of the Friends Association.
In a one-on-one conversation between Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, the first woman ever appointed as director of a government hospital in Israel, and journalist Vered Rivlin Ramon, Dr. Levtzion-Korach spoke about the hospital’s dramatic growth trajectory:
Approval has been granted for one million square meters of construction; the Bar-Yehuda Psychiatric Hospital, the Shmuel Harofeh Geriatric Center, and the National Institute of Forensic Medicine are all being relocated to Shamir’s expanded campus. Combined with a significant projected population increase in the region, Shamir Medical Center is set to become the largest hospital in Israel in the coming years.
As part of this growth, Dr. Daniel Trotsky, Head of the Emergency Department, presented the hospital’s flagship initiative: the construction of a new Emergency Medicine (ER) Department, along with a surgical and inpatient tower, in a $300 million development project.
Sigal Adar, CEO of the Friends Association, shared updates on the remarkable progress made in the past two years, despite the pandemic.
“Although we haven’t met in person for two years, significant things have happened,” she noted. “New friends have joined the association, giving a serious boost to the hospital’s development.”
As of today, the Association has tripled the total annual donations to the hospital, now reaching ₪42 million per year.
