In recent days, the first implantation in Israel of the world\u2019s smallest and most advanced pacemaker was successfully performed at the Electrophysiology Institute at Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) by Dr. Vladimir Vasilenko, a senior cardiologist with extensive experience in advanced pacemaker implantation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe advantage of this new generation of miniature pacemakers lies in its enhanced performance and lower risk compared to traditional devices,\u201d Dr. Vasilenko explained.<\/p>\n

Prof. Elad Anter, Director of the Electrophysiology Institute at Shamir Medical Center, added:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no longer a need for a visible device under the skin or for inserting leads into the veins. This technology streamlines everything \u2014 from a bulky and invasive system to one that is ultra-compact, elegant, and simple, without traveling through the blood vessels. That\u2019s its greatest advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Prof. Anter, around 5% of Israelis over the age of 65 require a pacemaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we age, the heart\u2019s electrical conduction system weakens, resulting in a slower pulse. Since we rely on a healthy heart rate to carry out everyday activities, insufficient blood flow to vital organs can cause fatigue and a reduced ability to perform even basic tasks.
