The new and spacious Helmsley Oncology Center
The old oncology institute in the center has lived for years in an outdated one-story building built in the early 1980s and is now completely changing its face thanks to a donation from the Helmsley Foundation. The new and spacious Helmsley Oncology Center is currently under construction and is planned to become the most advanced center for cancer treatment in the Shefala region and to provide an international level response to the oncology patient population in the region. 900 square meters of the old building will be expanded to a 9,750 square meter building, and instead of a Six floors will be built, including oncology screening, day hospitalization for young people, clinics, supportive care, and hospital floors – all for the well-being of patients and their families.
The ground floor level will be a day hospitalization center; The two upper floors will contain clinics and a palliative care department, and the underground level will be occupied by the hospital’s new radiotherapy institute. The advanced treatment and the possibility of receiving a coordinated treatment plan under one roof will reduce the physical and mental stress experienced by cancer patients and their families. In addition, the new institute will provide not only excellent medical care and advanced nursing care, but also a wide range of holistic treatments and services, including mental and psychological support, and social assistance in a spacious and pleasant space that creates a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The Helmsley Multidisciplinary Center for Oncology, headed by Dr. Raya Leibovitz, will continue to cooperate closely with the other units of the medical center, including the oncology hospitalization and oncology surgery departments. The center will also cooperate with the nearby Geriatric Medical Center in Beer Ya’akov (Shmuel Harofeh), with the community clinics of all four health funds in Israel, with three external radiation institutes and will also continue his extensive research activities.
The center is an integral part of the vision of the Shamir Medical Center and the extensive plan for the development of the medical center in the coming years.
