Every year about 8,000 babies are born at the Shamir Medical Center. The center, which is located in the lowlands and provides services to the Kfar Chabad area, Be’er Ya’akov, Rishon Lezion, Ramla, Lod and the moshavim, faces a demographic growth rate that is one of the highest in the country. To this figure should be added the estimate that in light of the expansion of residential neighborhoods in the area and the expected demographic growth, the center will serve about half An additional million inhabitants. These figures require immediate preparation for the expected increase in the number of births in the coming years.

In light of the accelerated increase in the number of residents in the center and in the lowlands and the transformation of the hospital into the largest medical center in Israel, the maternity department will become a maternity hospital that will allow to receive more mothers and provide them with the high standards that exist in Israel and the world. The existing maternity ward includes a total of 74 beds, 14 of which are in private rooms. The new maternity home will have 3 floors and about 2,500 square meters which will be added to the existing 2,100 square meters. The addition will include beds in private rooms which will be built to a standard adapted to the well-being of the mother and her family.
