The emergency department at Shamir Medical Center is one of the busiest in the country with approximately 160,000 visits per year.
The establishment of a new emergency medicine department in an area of 6,000 square meters, 3 levels with 32 centralized operating rooms and an inpatient tower with 20 wards is the first step in making the Shamir Medical Center the largest in Israel. that will allow medical treatment to be provided to a large number of patients at the same time.
The planning and design of the hospital and the hospital building are intended to improve the patient’s experience in the hospitalization and healing processes, and therefore special emphasis is placed on the innovation of the facilities and design in accordance with international standards. The new building will be a protected structure that will allow continued operations in times of emergency and war, including under missile attack. The hospital will be equipped with medical equipment The most advanced which will immeasurably improve patient safety.
The new medical center and hospital building will include:
- The first Step Down Unit (SDU) of its kind in Israel, a unit designed to provide intermediate care for the injured in critical condition from the intensive care unit
- An expanded imaging unit that will include the latest technologies available
- A new psychiatric emergency unit
- New minor trauma unit
- A unique layout, designed based on lessons learned from the Corona epidemic, which will include a parking bay for a dedicated ambulance and an isolation unit for infectious patients
- An advanced medical simulation facility for the training and certification of medical staff
- Designated areas for protected treatment of chemical weapon victims
- Emergency stockpiles
- Operational command center for the control of emergency situations.
